SEAP Application Form Page 1 of 9 Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) for Talented Students Ages 13 - 18 The Walter Reed Program Weeks for 2004: June 14 - 18 (home school students only); June 21 - 25; June 28 - July 2; July 5 - 9; July 12 - 16; July 19 - 23; July 26 - 30; August 2 - 6. There is no official deadline for application although early submission improves a student’s chances of being selected for the program and specific program weeks. Program hours are weekdays from 8:30 am until approximately 3:30 pm daily for a period of one - four week. GEMS is carried out in the teaching laboratory of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, 503 Robert Grant Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20910-7500. The GEMS program offers students the opportunity to expand upon their interest in science and classroom courses with hands-on laboratory experiences including, but not limited to, studies of breast cancer cell proliferation, extraction of bioactive chemicals from plants, and fun physics experiments. To receive stipend all students must complete in class requirements. Stipend dependent on: 1. Attendance 2. GEMS level 3.
