Show JAMES T. WORLTON and ELISHA HARDY PIONEERS OF 1862 and 1865 The James T. Worlton family, father, mother and three daughters, came to Morgan in April, 1862. Their first home was a log cabin located near the Benjamin Smith home in North Morgan, Mr. Worlton held many important church positions. He owned a small shoe shop business in the Metz building which was located near where the Heiner garage now (1948) stands. He also owned a tannery and tanned all the leather he used. Elisha Hardy came to Morgan in 1865 and married Flora Worlton. This family later became permanent residents of North Morgan. When the Union Pacific railroad was being constructed through Weber Canyon Mr. Hardy took a sub-contract to build part of the road bed and furnish ties for the same. They lived in dugouts on Sharp's Flat, where the Taggart Canyon Camp is now located. In 1869 they, with many others, watched the first Union Pacific train pass over the road. |
