Show Sunday, June 23rd, 1918. Mother Mine: Am well and in a quiet sector again, in other words all ok to date. Had a letter from Jack yesterday, he is well and enclosed a letter from Theron who is alright also. Jack mentions meeting Ollie Reeves of Ogden, he was leader of a Jazz band. Theron mentions meeting Robert Lockead, both were well and glad to be over. Have been on the road and sleeping in our cars for the best part of ten days until yesterday, when we were given a barrack; it has also rained for about that period, night and day. The region here is very similar to the region around Tahoe. We have eight posts, which are relieved every five days. This gives us about five in and five out. It is much better in my estimation, as you can keep your bed in one place a little while. We have electric light, A French American Y. Can get real beer once in awhile and I have a nice soft mattress again. Couldn’t ask for much more. It is funny to hear the people here speak German and French. Also the children.
