Davis Anniversary Celebration Guest Speaker Reverend France A. Davis was born and raised in Gough, Georgia, and ts the eighth of nine children born to the union of Mr. John H. and Mrs. Julia Davis. At the conclusion of high school, Reverend Davis attended college at Tuskegee Institute and served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic. He later earned degrees in Afro-American Studies from Merritt College; Arts and Humanities from Laney College; Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley, Religion and Philosophy from Westminster College; Mass Communication from the University of Utah; and a Master of Ministry from Northwest Nazarene College. Reverend Davis came to Salt Lake City in September 1972 recruited as a Communications Teaching Fellow and graduate student. One year later, he was appointed Instructor and taught Various communication and ethnic studies courses ultimately earning a Distinguished Teachers Award. Reverend Davis continues to teach at the University of Utah. He lectures widely on cultural and religious topics. He also serves on various community and national boards including the OICs of America, the Salt Lake National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Salt Lake Housing Authority, Career Service Council, and the Salt Lake City Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. Reverend Davis has served as Past Moderator of the Intermountain General Baptist Association of Churches, Inc., during the years of 1977-1980 and 1992-1996. From 1997 to 2002, he served as Advisor to the Intermountain General Baptist Convention, Inc., and from 2002 to present; Reverend Davis was elected as the State Director of the Intermountain General Baptist Convention, Inc. Reverend Davis has faithfully served as Pastor of the Historic Calvary Baptist Church of Salt Lake City since 1974. This cornerstone church recently celebrated its 111 Church Anniversary and under his pastorate, continues to flourish spiritually, in membership, and economically impacting the city and state to the glory of God.
