In the picture to the left is shown the open cut excavation for the Nevada spillway. Above the spillway excavation is the start of the fill for the cableway bench. At the right is shown trucks hauling excavated rock to the Nevada spoil dumps. August 12th, 1932. 1394 This picture was taken at the Nevada abutment of the Dam. Workmen are drilling for the extension of the highway from the damsite to the Nevada spillway. The boom of a shovel is shown working in from the opposite direction. Description In 1931, Utah joined Six Companies Inc. to raise the surety required to bid for the Boulder (Hoover) Dam contract. One of the world’s largest dams, Hoover Dam was completed in 1936 at a cost of $49 million. These scrapbooks document through photographs the construction of the dam showcasing UCC's part in its creation.
