Among those participating on the program was Mr. Glen Swenson, director of the Utah State Building Board. In his observations Mr. Swenson traced the history of the tower back to its beginnings, where the need for a landmark was felt by the early planners in his office. Mr. Swenson stated the tower would become a focal point of identification whose value to the college and community will grow in the years to come. Architect John Piers, an alumnus of the institution, pointed out various architectural aspects of the structure and indicated his pleasure at being appointed architect for the structure. He felt it a privilege to be associated with the project and stated that the tower was a gift not just to the college, but to the community and the entire state.
