When he started working on a BS degree in radiology, the central campus looked like a sea of concrete where dead trees lined the pathway to the library. In 2003, a reconstruction project began to improve the campus look. Buildings and landscaping took shape; ultimately the Stewart Bell Tower plaza was closed. Rock and water features were brought in and, after eighteen months, the project hit a milestone. Ferguson was in the crowd Thursday when University President F. Ann Millner and former-President Dean Hurst rededicated the Bell Tower plaza. "I like it, " Ferguson said. "It looks a lot better. This whole landscaping thing beautiful. " Millner said the Bell Tower has become an icon for the institution and a center of campus happenings. "This has really become the core of this campus, " Millner said. Hurst agreed as he addressed the gathered crowd."That Bell Tower has served as an icon that has weathered the weather well, " Hurst said. Millner said the new landscaping incorporates the surrounding environment. "Really, it's reflective of what we all love about living in Utah, " Millner said. "What a wonderful opportunity to have that in the center of our campus.
