Torrid Northern I. C. A. C. Race Remains Tied as Clubs Split; Harbertson Scores 23 Counters By Charles Kreher A razor-sharp crew of Weber college Wildcats moved back into a first place tie with Ricks college Vikings in the torrid northern division I. C. A. C. race before a full house at Ogden high gym last night with a score of 97 to 69. The Vikings, who had moved into first place Friday night when they took over the Weber crew, 74 to 67, were pretty well honed themselves, as they matched the Cats basket for basket during the fore part of the game. Halftime score was 40 to 39 in favor of Weber. Bob Harbertson flicked in 11 baskets and made one free throw out of three tries for a total of 23 points, bringing his ten-game total for the season to 179. Glen Dallinga, high-powered Kicks forward who has been leading the league in scoring, was well guarded by the Weber lads and tanked only 11 points making his ten-game total thus far this season 185. Bob Haws was warm as 'tater pie, though, and piled up a total of 21 points to lead the Idahoans, with Chris Christensen right behind him with 18. Coach Reed Swenson's boys had no trouble in finding the backboards as Glen Ashby clicked in 17 points: five fielders, and seven charity tosses out of 11 tries. Big Bill Hull dunked seven field goals and made one for four on the gratis tosses to rack up 15. Ron Wright rang the bell for 13 and Don Dins- dale was in with six. Both clubs played firehouse basketball from the very start and had the almost Globetrotter size crowd on the edge of their seats from the very second the red hand started moving on the clock. Weber moved ahead 15 to 7 in the first five minutes of play but with two minutes to go Ricks had forged ahead for the first time, 37 to 36. As the second half opened Weber had a 50 to 41 edge in the first four minutes of the concluding stanza and when eight minutes had spun by the margin was 65 to 44. Pace Grows Faster From that time on the pace grew faster if at all possible, and Wright, Ashby, Dinsdale and Hull were sinking the agate from almost impossible angles. Wright sank one from under his own basket on a spin shot when he had so many Ricks players on him he must have thought he was in Rexburg. Score: 67 to 44. After Ashby had made good two foul shots to make the score read 70 to 45, Wright hit again to run it to 72-46 following Anderson's free throw. Harbertson hit from What must have been ten miles out and Wright hit again after the ball had passed up and down the court from Weber to Ricks to the Vikings to the Cats like a yo-yo to make it 78 to 49 for Weber. As the second half wore on, so did the tempers of players and fans alike. Coach Lowell Biddulph put his first string back in after resting them but by then the Weber second team was fired up like a locomotive. After Sellers had sunk a free throw for Ricks and Dallings had scored a couple of fielders for the Vikings, Ron Wilkinson found the range for Weber and the score ran 93 to 67. Things started getting rougher and rougher on the floor and after a particularly hot scrimmage under the Weber basket Chris Christensen, Ricks guard, was found stretched out cold on the floor. As the players cleared away to give him air, Weber's Dale Gardner staggered to the bench holding his nose and collapsed. Boise, Weber Collide in Two Cage Games This Week Saturday night play in the Inter mountain conference basketball ranks proved little that hadn't already been proved Friday. Ricks rocketed over Southern Idaho College of Education 92-66, Weber slapped Westminster 78-44, Branch Agricultural clobbed Carbon 74-47, and Snow edged Dixie 44-41. That was the same type of result in each of the Friday night contests among the schools, although Snow's margin of safety was a bit larger. The Vikings of Rexburg, Ida.,were sparked by center Wes Lawrence, with 19 points, and Glen Dalling and Orson Tew, with 14 and 16 respectively. Ricks led all the way, coasting home. Weber over Westminster looked perilous for about three seconds as the Parsons opened the game with the first basket, but they soon faded out and it was Weber all the way. B. A. C. came back with a super- powerful second half, trailing at halftime 30-18, and then unleashing superior attack that swamped the visitors. Snow's conquest of the Flyers was an almost-lost game until Ivan Allred came through with three happy points as the game drew to a possible overtime finish.
