Show Studentbody Officers Studentbody officers composed the core of Weber State College's student government and met as a group in Executive Council. The seven member Executive Council and the Supreme Court were the two integral parts of a new system of government voted in by last year's students. The new system replaced an in-efficient Senate and executive branch with a single governing body, the Executive Council, that executed both executive and legislative functions. Executive Council was chaired by studentbody president Read Hellewell, a members of the Blue Key Honor Fraternity and former ASWSC chief justice. He was also responsible to be chairman of the Union Policy Board, to represent the Council and studentbody at Administration meetings and community functions and to make recommendations to fill certain ASWSC committee offices. Vice-presidents in charge of different areas of student interest comprised the remainder of the Executive Council. Becky Sparkman, Communications Vice-President, served as chairman of the Media Board, as co-chairman of the Fine Arts Convocations Committee and as coordinator of student concerts. Activities Vice-President was Mike Stever, a Theater Arts major. Stever's duties included serving on the Union Activities Board as chairman, making recommendations throughout the year. The vice-presidential position over the financial matters was held by Ron Ray. Some of his responsibilities were to act as chairman for the Finance Board, evaluate monetary requests from ASWSC organizations, conduct inventories of property held by ASWSC and oversee all financial affairs of the Associated Students. Brent Johns, Blue Key Honor Fraternity member has been extremely active in student government and various college committees in past years and is now serving as Academic Vice-President on the Executive Council. In addition to acting as Speaker of the Student Academic Assembly, Johns served on the Faculty Academic Council and chaired the Academic Board. Student Services Vice-President, Ken Low, had the responsibility of overseeing CLIC (Campus Listening and Information Center) and Ombudsman offices. His concerns ranged over many facets of campus life, including volunteer services and dormitories. Interacting with high schools and the general public. Public Relations Vice-President, Jack Helgesen, went out into the community to promote Weber State College and inform people of the services WSC makes available to them. Working behind the scenes to regulate student concerns, the studentbody officers in Executive Council made hundreds of decisions which didn't really catch studentbody attention. Of those that did catch special attention were, the firing of Brad Post from the position of Ombudsman, the restructuring of Campus Volunteer services under Ken Lowe and Executive Council and the revision of the Awards and Honors Committee. Other actions included using surplus funds from last year's budget to sponsor "Issues '74", a week of special convocations on the economy and the appropriation of funds for a UPI wire to be used by SIGNPOST and KWCR staffs and the non-renewal of funds to continue it.
