Show INDEPENDENTS William Furlong President Barbara Nielson Vice President Heber Fuller Vice President Linda Roghaar Secretary Seeing academic achievement as the main goal of the expanded Weber College of the future, a group of students formed the Independent Association of Weber College students. To gain academic growth thus became the main function of this organization, and during the year the students of this group displayed just this function. The overall grade-point average of the Independents was higher than that of any other similar organization on campus. The preamble of the Independents' constitution states: "We, the independent students of Weber College, in order to form proper academic, social and cultural objectives for the unaffiliated students on campus, do hereby dedicate as well as organize this group to the formation of these standards and to the students of Weber College. Students of the Independents organization were provided with fun and entertainment as evidenced by the strong participation in the intramural contests by this group. This intramural agenda included a winning table tennis team and basketball five. While such activities developed competitive spirit, they also produced leaders as was shown by the number of independent students running for student body offices. Bill Furlong, this year's president of Independents, says, "Because of added social and academic responsibility due to the four-year program, Weber College needed an organization which provided proper standards for unaffiliated students. The Independents have done this, I feel." Officers were Bill Furlong, president; Heber Fuller, vice president; Barbara Nielson, vice president; Linda Roghaar, secretary; Milo Call, treasurer.
