My name is Martin Krahe and | am from West Germany. | am living with the Jeffs family. This year in a foreign country has brought me many new experiences and insights for which | am very thankful. The comparison of two different cultures showed me a new, different, and in some points, better way of life. | particularly enjoyed my time at Weber High! School dances, football games, clubs, or even a yearbook, these are things | will really miss after my return to Germany. In general the German high school is harder and there is a lot of pressure. Grades are very important. You can’t choose your subject as freely as here, and bands or drama activities take place after school, if at all. | want to thank you all for the support you gave me from my first day on as a Warrior and for the chance to participate in many school activities | never felt lonely and want to inform you that there is a great spirit at Weber High. | wish you all success and a good time for the coming year! As | am writing this, | have been in Utah for three months. | can say | love it as much as the country as the people, and it is really fun to get on knowing the American way of life! | think this school is good; so more exciting than in France, and so alive with all those clubs | enjoy to join too! During my stay | worked with mentally handicapped children instead of . going to school, as most of the students do. My experience was not only a fun one but an educational one. Learning about different countries and their people makes the world seem a lot smaller. If for some reason, such as a global tragedy, all the countries of the world were forced to work together, we would all discover how close we could really be. Through AFS the younger generation has a chance to build a closer relationship.
