Show 16 TWELFTH ANNUAL REPORT, Botany.The course in botany deals with the structure and physiology of plants, germination of seeds, venation, morphology of parts, adaptation, fertilization and classification. Special attention is given to the systematic study of our local flora. Each student is required to present at the close of the year a carefully prepared herbarium of fifty species. Geology.This course deals with the development of the earth and its inhabitants. The agencies operating at the present time are considered as a preparation for the study of historical geology. The "Great Basin," with its well defined fault-scarps, shore lines, alluvial cones, saline lakes, and ore deposits, receives special attention. Dana's Revised Text Book of Geology. For reference,. LeConte's Elements and Dana's Complete Work. Five recitations per week, first semester. Physical Geography.-The physical aspects of the earth, its place and relation in the solar system, movements of the winds and waters and their effects upon climate, earthquakes and their causes, volcanoes, and the distribution of plants and animals will be considered. Tarr's Physical Geography. Five recitations per week, first semester. Physiology. -Five times per week, first semester. The object in this study will be to so present the subject that it may be of practical use to students in life. And in order to make it so, special attention will be given to the various organs, their use and abuse, and hygienic laws for the preservation of health. Blaisdell's Physiology and Martin's Human Body will be used as texts. Astronomy. Five times per week, first semester. Study and observations of the simpler movements of the heavenly bodies. Howe's Lessons and Young's Elements as texts. MATHEMATICS. Algebra I.Elementary principles, factors, fractions, simple and simultaneous equations, inequalities, etc. Wentworth's School Algebra. Five recitations per week, first and second semesters. Algebra II.Simultaneous and literal equations, variation, progression, series, binomial theorem, etc., carefully considered. Wentworth's School Algebra, supplemented by Wentworth's Higher Algebra. Five recitations per week, first and second semesters. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 17 Geometry.This course includes Plane, Solid, and Spherical Geometry. Wentworth's Plane and Solid Geometry used as text. Five recitations per week, first and second semesters. Trtgonometry.Wentworth's Plane Trigonometry completed. Five recitations per week during first semester. HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCIENCE. General History.In this course the history of the world's great nations from the earliest times down to the present will be considered. Myers' General History as text. Five recitations per week, first and second semesters. Political Economy.The principles underlying the production, exchange, distribution, and consumption of wealth are discussed. Supplementary reading and discussions, Bullock's Economics and Walker's Political Economy. Three recitations per week, first semester. Civil Government.This course deals with the origin and development of American Institutions. The Constitution of the United States and of Utah receive special attention.
