Show 54 WEBER ACADEMY Carpentry c.An application of the skill acquired during the first year, involving the use, care and running of modern wood-working machinery is the work of the course. The planing, sawing, scraping and sanding of hard woods, together with the making of glue joints, saw-filing and tool grinding are also given. Five two-hour periods, first semester. Carpentry d.This course gives instruction in cabinet-making; original designing and proper construction expressed on paper by working drawings; finishing and polishing; explanation of the purpose and process of the treatment of new woods, illustrated by the finishing of the excercises, scraped and sanded; advanced turning. Five two-hour periods per week, second semester. Carpentry e, f, g and h.A continuation of the work in cabinet and furniture making, turning and finishing. Two periods daily throughout the third and fourth years. Drawing. Drawing a (Free hand drawing) Perspective and sketching from objects in pencil. Designed to perpare Normal students for teaching. Five hours per week, first semester. Drawing b.Drawing in charcoal from casts, and decorative work in colored chalk; water-color sketching in still life. Drawing "a" is prerequisite. Five hours per week, second semester. WEBER ACADEMY 55 Drawing c.Design and harmony in color concerning home decoration. Its purpose is to develop the artistic sense of the student, and it applies to problems of home life embodying these principles. Designed for Domestic Arts students. Five hours per week throughout the year. Drawing d.A continuation of course c giving design in stenciling, art needle work, etc. Five hours per week throughout the year. Drawing e (Mechanical)This course presents the elementary principles of projection, including the common conventions of mechanical drawing and linear perspective. Adapted to the line of shop work the student is pursuing. Five hours per week throughout the pear. Music. Sight Singing.The purpose of this study is to teach the pupil to read music at sight; to hear mentally a tone and be able to produce it. The year's work includes major and minor scales, clefs, bass and treble, rhythmic values, pitch studies and practical singing in one, two and four parts. Two hours per week thoughout the year. Choir.The choir is composed of 120 mixed voices. Any pupil with sufficient voice qualification is entitled to membership. The choicest kind of choruses, and part songs, by |
