Description The Construction Artifact category of the Harrisville Virtual History Museum contains building tools and materials.
Biographical/Historical Note This nail most likely started as a piece of steel forged from mills in the eastern US and freighted to Nauvoo, Illinois. There it was fashioned by a blacksmith into a wagon wheel rim for the western exodus of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the Salt Lake Valley, it was removed from the wheel and cut into nails to be used in the construction of the tabernacle where it served for 138 years, until the tabernacle's renovation in 2005.
