Samuel Rose Parkinson was born in England, later moving with his family to Australia, Chile, and back to England, before finally emigrating to St. Louis, Missouri where he first came in contact with Mormons. Parkinson was baptized in 1849, when he was eighteen, and embarked westward to Utah by mule team in the summer of 1854. He settled in Franklin, Idaho, where he filled various church callings and practiced plural marriage. He was eventually arrested and convicted for practicing polygamy and served a brief jail term. |
