Show 1. Brief History of ?ii.ARY GILES WHITTIER VINCENT z-. Born: 18 June 1896., Milton, Morgan Co. Utah 3. Married: Charles B. Whittier, 27 June 1917. h. History gw en by Barbara P. Whittier 5. Morgan Co. South Morgan Cam-p , - MARY GILES WHITTIER VINCENT 8 1'18.ry- Giles Whittier Vincent was born to William Giles and Sarah Hogge on 18 June 1896 in Milton, Utah. She was the 3rd child in a family of 12 children. As on of the older daughters she found plenty to do to help her Mother with cleaning and helping with the younger children. She went to echool in Milton and later to Morgan High School and was a member of the first class to graduate from that school in 1915. She married Charles Brooks Whittier in the Salt Lake Temnle on 27 June 1917. They made their home in Peterson and 1918 had a son, Charles Eu,2'ene and in 1921 another son William Gerald. In Oct 1928, her hll'.9band became ill with ap~endicatis and it ruotured and caused his death. A few years later the voung widow and her two sons moved to her parents home in Milton taking with them a few cows and some chiclcens that she owned. She did what-ever work she could find to earn a few dollors to help support her family - helping in homes where there was illness or new babies. Later she was employed bv the school lunch pDogram in the county. She worked in t his for many years and was supervisor for . some of the time. When her sons were in high school the family purchased a small farm in Milton and they moved into their own home again. In 1954 she married Nephi Earl Vincent and moved to Salt Lake City. They became very active in temple work and for several years did much of the initiatory work for their ward. In 1971 her husband died and she moved back to Morgan, making her home in South Morgan. Mary has always been a person who kept busy. Any spare monent was used to do beau-fi. ful knitting, crocheting and embroding. Two years ago she had an eye infection and lost the si~ht in one eye. This has made it difficult for her to do fine hand work and it has been hard for her to flf.fif find new activities to keep her hands busy. She loves flowers and house plants and has a real "Green Thumb". Her hol1seolants thrieve and she tend a beautiful flower garden at her home. She is a friendly person with a lively sense of humor. She enjoys her family and nei~hbors-and she gains much satisf- 4' action from attending church meetings and the temple. |
