Show sonnet on a tired soul Oh, cursed light that bursts upon my soul, And paints the face of good and ill thereon. Grant briefly, respite from austere control. Let me embrace temptation as my own. My weary heart would rest from actions blest And wrest deep pleasures from the broader way. Lorelei, holding heaven in her breast, Sings sweet of treasures only she can pay. Answer now, of all thy answers given, What burst of light on what great verity Can shape my soul and fling it into heaven? Endure said He. And claim eternity. Oh, blessed light, heed not my foolish plea. Lead back my soul to God in spite of me. -BILL HALLEY ILLUSTRATED BY LORENA HARLINE 14 PROBE LITERARY-ARTS MAGAZINE WEBER STATE COLLEGE Winter 1972 EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Pam Wilson POETRY Weldon Champneys, editor Katie Lyons BUSINESS MANAGER Robert Vandenaker FICTION Richard Kaser, editor Jake Hoogland ART Louona Harline, editor ADVISOR Candadai Seshachari PROBE is the official magazine of Weber State College.
