Show 10 THE ACORN On Saturday, November 19th, the first basket ball game of the season was played in the L. D. S. gymnasium, the contestants being trie L. D. S. and the W. S. A. The L. D. S. had held the state championship for some years and, of course,: were anxious to maintain their record. They had been practicing hard for some time, and were confident of victory. They had two of the old players, Christy and Lund, although Lund played only in the second half. The line-up was as follows: L. D. S. Position. W. S. A. Christy-Lund center Doxey Hanson right forward Emmett Reeves left forward McKay Wiggle-Christy rightguard H. Belnap Richardson left guard J. Belnap sub Watson From the first our boys played better ball, and much better team work, than their opponents. This was the comment of many who understood the game. Christy had the honor of making the first basket of the game, but it proved to be his last. After that our boys steadily gained, and, at the end of the first half, the score was 12 to 6 in favor of the W. S. A. In the second half Lund entered the game, taking Christy's place at center, while Christy played guard in Wiggle's place. Our boys continued to gain, and the final score was 26 to 11 in our favor. Our boys did not play as roughly as their opponents, having put eight fouls called on them to their opponents' ten. The centers were about equal, both getting the advantage about an equal number of times. Emmett pitched very well, making ten out of eight throws, while the L. D. S. got three out of eight. For the W. S. A. Emmett made 4, McKay 3, and Doxey 2; for the L. D. S., Hanson 2. Lund 1, and Christy l. Various complimentary remarks were made by both players and spectators during the game. With this game to begin with, our boys will continue to become better, and, with the co-operation of the student body, will be the champions of Utah.
