Show by Farr Shirley Welch AT WORSHIP The early years of the west found the territory which was to become Utah inhabited by Indians believing, as their fathers before them had believed, in the worship of the sun and other objects of nature. Their first contact with the religion of the white man came about with the coming of Father Escalante and his Catholic missionaries. Utah became a Christian territory when the Mormon pioneers entered to build their churches and temples. As people of other religions began to settle in Utah to start a new life, misunderstanding gradually turned to tolerance. Now adherents to all faiths live together in cooperation and harmony in Utah, each man worshipping as he sees fit. The pioneers recognized the importance of education for the children who were someday to assume the positions of their fathers in building the new territory to a realization of their dreams. This concern for the future has always characterized our educators, who have, with the support of the people, succeeded in making Utah one of the top-ranking states in the field of learning. Constant growth and expansion of educational institutions has marked and must continue to mark Utah's progress. Weber college, founded in 1889, has responded to the educational needs of northern Utah but now appears cramped on its city-block campus and is ready for transfer to larger grounds with modern educational plans.
