S. Mikkelsen SCRIBULUS is the publication of the Associated Students of Weber College, Ogden, Utah May, 1960 NEW WORLD TOMORROW Gumyogi is only 20 kilometers from the booming and bustling of downtown Tokyo, but it's the quietest little village in all of Japan. Tomorrow I must leave this sleeping coastal village and sail to the land of the multi-millionaires. A rich American corporal and I were married last week, and we will make our new home on a large plantation in Georgia. But tonight I want to stroll down the dusty little streets of my village and remember everything about it. It sits in a cove between two mountains, with volcanic soil which defies cultivation. Unpainted cabins are clustered on stairsteps along the hillside in the shadow of the mountain ranges. But it has a magnificient little harbor and a bench which led my honorable ancestors to settle here. You see, my father and his father, and I don't know how many fathers before , made their livelihood as everyone else in Gumyogi gathering fish from the sea. |
