Image Captions cover the growing electrical energy requirements of the greater los angeles area are symbolized by this year's cover utah is proud to have contributed toward the fulfillment of those requirements over the years utah has forged a growing alliance with the public utility industry as a builder of hydroelectric proj ects and recently as a supplier of energy in the form of coal and uranium in 1931 utah was instrumental in the formation of the six companies which built the hoover dam thereby har nessing the power potential of the colorado river for the first time even today hoover dam provides a substantial portion of los angeles power requirements in 1959 utah participated in the construction of the mammoth pool project which har nessed the flow of the san joaquin river for the southern cali fornia edison company in october of this year utah signed an agreement with six public utilities which requires us to supply about 6 million tons of coal annually for power generation at the mine site in northwestern new mexico approximately one half of the 1.5 million kilowatts generated will be furnished to the southern california edison company whose primary mar ket is shown in this picture
