Show St. Patrick's Bap exercises As our colors are Green and White, and green is the prevailing color on St. Patrick's Day, we used that day for ours. The girls wore bands of green ribbon around their heads and the boys looked their best in green neckties. debating One of the main points of interest in our school during this year has been the inter-class de- bates. The contestants of the different class teams worked diligently, each hoping to have their numerals engraved on the silver loving cup. The question, "Resolved that a constitutional amendment be adopted providing for the direct election of United States Senators," was a popular and well chosen subject. On Friday, March 10, the Sophomore Class represented by Frank Fowles, Iva Steers and Mable Ririe, met and defeated the Freshmen Class. The winners upheld the negative side of the question, while their opponents took the affirmative. In a previous contest, the Seniors won a victory over the Junior class, this bringing the two victorious teams to- gether to try out for the championship of the school. Accordingly on March 24 the opposing debaters met in the final contest; the Sophomores taking the affirmative and the Seniors the negative. Principal W. W. Henderson acted as chair- man. The judges were Judge Bagley, Attor- neys D. A. Skeen and E. A. Pratt. At the close of the debate, the decision rendered was in favor of the affirmative. The judges, however, did not decide unanimously, but it was evident that those who represented the affirmative side proved to be the stronger team, having been victorious in both debates and taking a different view point OJ. the ques- tion in each. On the following Thursday, in General As- sembly, the cup was presented the Sopho- more class by Prof. Henderson and accepted by our Debating Manager, Frank Fowles. It is the desire and ambition of '13 to again win the cup as well as other honors of the school. Class Bance Our dance was given on April 14 and everyone declared it to be the most successful social event of the year. It has not been the custom in the Weber Academy for the Sophomores to give a dance, but owing to the high standing of our class the privilege was granted. Nine girls advertised in Devotional by dressing as little school girls in aprons and sunbonnets. Each girl represented a letter which, when arranged in order, spelled the word '' Sophomores.'' Elaborate Easter decorations were one of the prominent features. Our colors, "Green and White," made everyone feel that spring was really here; even the punch tasted springy. |
