Show And so we are going where all must go, To the place the living may never know. A little more laughter, a few more tears, And we shall have told our increasing years. The book is closed and the prayers are said, And we're a part of the countless dead. Thrice happy then if some soul can say, "I live because he has passed this way." MY MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER Program Garrison, Millard County, Utah, 1939 Our Father Who Art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. We have met this beautiful morning to do honor to our Mothers. It is a glorious privilege to think, to act, to appreciate, to live—to look up in the sky in summer, to watch the sun sink on the horizon and see the myriads of worlds come twinkling into view until the sky is white with them, and to think that we are here. We are thankful this beautiful day for our Mothers. They sacrifice most—therefore love us most. They think always first of us. They watch over us in our infancy with the greatest care and devotion. In our childhood and youth they are our refuge. In our success and achievements they offer us praise and congratulations. Bless us that we may be kind to them not in words alone but in deeds—deeds of kindness and consideration and love and mercy. Bless us as children that we may lighten their burdens that their backs shall not stoop too soon nor the gray hairs come too early. Bless us as young men and women that we shall keep no secrets from our mothers—that we shall give her no trouble that would cause her sleepless nights. Bless us as grown men and women in the struggle for life that we may meet it fair and true with honest weapons. For —10— this and this and this alone will repay our mothers for loving us so much. We are thankful for our mothers. A good home and a good mother is the greatest gift that earth can give to man. There is no word in any language like the word Mother. Mother is our refuge. She leads us into channels of peace, love and contentment beside the still waters that speak of Thy Goodness and mercy. Bless our Mothers everywhere. We thank Thee for Thy great goodness and bless us always. Oh Lord support us all the day long of this troublous life until the shades lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fervor of life is over and our work is done. Then Lord in Thy mercy and love grant us safe today a holy rest at the last through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen. PASS IT ON Have you had a kindness shown? Pass it on. 'Twas not meant for you alone— Pass it on. Let it travel down the years, Let it wipe another's tears, Till in Heaven the deed appears— Pass it on. THE MOTHER BY TEMPLE BAILEY The young mother set her foot on the path of life. And the guide said, 'Yes and the way is hard, and you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning." But the young mother was happy and she would not believe that any thing could be better than these years. So she played with her children and gathered flowers for them along the way, and bathed with them in the clear streams and the sun shone on —11— |
