On Friday, January 9, 1914, our basket-ball team, with Coach Watson and Manager McEntire, left for Preston, Idaho, to play the first game of the Church League with the Oneida Stake Academy. The work of the lightning Oneida team was nearly miraculous to Weber's players, who seemingly, stood by and allowed their opponents to score. The game ended with a score of 96-27, in favor of the Oneida "Speedies." B.Y.C. Game After playing Preston, the Weber team went to Logan to play a game of basket-ball with the team from the B. Y. C. Weber's representatives arrived in Logan at 8:20 a. m., and went to the Hotel, where they remained until evening. By the time they had walked to the B. Y. C. about one thousand students had gathered in the gymnasium to cheer for their team. The yells of these rooters made the Weber boys feel rather worried, but in spite of all this, they went into the game to give the B. Y. C. the best they had. The referee blew his whistle and both teams lined up on the floor. Weber took the lead at the start and at the end of the first half the score stood 14-12 in their favor. In the second half Weber started with her usual fast passing, but luck had changed and they were unable to score. The game ended and the crowd stood breathless waiting to hear the score. The referee announced the score a tie. The noise of the enthusiastic crowd was deafening". The teams played seven minutes longer and the B. Y. C. scored a field goal, making the final score 28-30.
