Show 20 ACORN As the Twig is Bent (Continued from Page 9) A happy hour was spent in the ranch house by these three Tom, Josie and the Coach of Billings. They talked of the old times, discussed many of their old friends, and the reunion brought joy to the hearts of all. The sun was fast sinking behind the mountains, and the shades of early twilight deepening over the valley, when the door was suddenly and rudely pushed open and "Sleepy Dan," the assistant foreman, entered. "Say, Boss," he drawled, "Broncho Pete has just come back from Skull Valley, and he says that Ellis has that rustler cornered in Pine Gulch, and wants you to come over and take charge, 'cause they don't know whether to close in or wait till morning." "Very well, Dan, we'll go at once. Get the horses ready," answered Tom. "It's a cattle thief," he went on in response to Mack's inquiry. "He's been bothering us now for several months, and this time I do hope we'll get them." "Let me go with you," cried Mack. "I've been longing for some excitement ever since I came out here, and this looks promising. Will you take me?" "You're on," answered Tom jokingly. "But," he added more seriously, "if we get close to this desperado, there's liable to be some bullets flying." Then bidding his loved ones an affectionate good-bye, Tom and the Coach left the house, and with the two cowboys, mounted and rode furiously up the road toward the mountains, while in the ranch house his wife sank to her knees and offered up a heart-felt prayer for their safety to the Great Being above, who never fails those who ask of Him in faith. "SAGE." (To Be Continued.) ALUMNI H. C. P. may mean but little to the present Student Body, but to the students of '07, '08 and '09 and especially to the girls who belonged to the association, it is verily a reality; and the annual meetings held during the Christmas season are anticipated with pleasure. This year the club was entertained by Olive Belnap at her home, 2155 Madison Avenue. Miss Belnap was, during the past year, vice president of the organization. Reminiscences of Room 15 were mingled with the music and refreshments of the occasion, together with predications for the days to come. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, Katherine McKay; Vice President, Nell Wilson; Secretary and Treasurer, Frances P. Burton. Irving Nelson, '12, was a visitor at the school January 5th, on his way to Logan, where he is attending the Agriculture College. The Rose Bud Sorority still maintain their good fellowship as manifested in the Christmas greetings exchanged during the season's happy festivities. Though the girls are scattered in various places, the friendships of the High School days are bonds that are stronger than space, and dearer than many others formed in later years, for they contain a unity of ideals and many points of common enjoyment. Norma Sears spent the holidays in Ogden visiting relatives and friends. Though Miss Sears' home is in Chicago, she was for several years a student at Weber, and while here endeared herself to a large number of our people who welcome her on her visits to the west. |
