During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Officially, the title Pio- is given only to persons who arrived in Utah before the coming of the railroad in 1869. Dr. Edward I. Rich, who will observe his 97th birthday Fridav, qualifies for the rare title. _ Born in Bear River County ‘Inearly a century ago, he is the son of Charles C. Rich, LDS Church apostle and counselor to Brigham Young, | PRACTICED WITH BROTHER After graduating from Jeffer- son Medical College in Phila- \delphia ‘in the 90’s, Dr. Rich practiced medicine in Ogden for more than 50 years, much “of that time with his brother Ezra and later with his son Junior Edward Rich. Dr. Edward I. Rich delivered more than 2,500 babies and mary a sedate citizen has been reminded with a chuckle by Vw “Dr. Edward I.” that “I brought ‘| you to town.” ‘Dr. Rich and his wife, the former Almira Cousins, were the = we parents of five daughters and ';4wo sons and have 125 descendpants. Mrs. Rich died 11 years Vago. bs HAD EARLY AUTOMOBILE : Dr. Rich was progressive. He owned one of Ogden’s first automobiles, a one-cylinder Oldsmobile. At the age of 80 he built a new house at 2624 Taylor, where he still resides. In observance of the Ogder pioneer’s 97th birthday he wil be a guest at the Mansior House Friday sponsored by the Ogden chapter of the Sons o: Utah Pioneers. zoe |
