Show by West Pat Olsen Ross Powell 1847 These were the days of horses and buggies, bonnets and stovepipe hats. The west was a land of glorious opportunity, and the young men and women of the time were filled with a spirit of adventure which made them instrumental in the development of the new territory. They always had time for recreation, however, and courtship particularly was always new and exciting to every couple. Page 12 by West Kathleen Parker Pete Poort 1890 The turn of the century found elegance the keynote. Elaborate clothing was the current vogue, along with the close harmony and handle-bar mustaches of the barbershop quartet and the violent tragedy and equally violent joy of the melodrama. Tastes have changed considerably since the period of the "gay nineties," but a stroll along a country lane on the part of a young man and woman is still the popular form of entertainment it was then.
