Beginners' band. Students of this class will be transferred to the advanced band at the discretion of the instructor. Classes, four times a week. Credit, 1/2 unit. Music A-2. Orchestra. Classes, four times a week. Credit, Y2 unit. Music A-l. A general course in musical appreciation designed to teach the student how to listen to and enjoy good music. This is done by the use of the phonograph, piano, and rote singing. Classes, three times a week. Credit, 1/4 unit. Music B-2. Male Chorus. Required of all second year boys. Music B-3. Ladies' Chorus. Classes, two times a week. Credit 1/4 unit. Music B-4. Orchestra. Same as A-3. Music B-5. Band. Advanced band. Classes, four times a week. Music C-l. Sight reading and ear training, covering practice in pitch and rhythm, expression and signal markings and dictation work in all three. Classes, three times a week. Credit, 1/2 unit. Music C-3. Harmony. A technical course for the music student covering the rudiments of applied harmony. Classes, two times a week. Credit, 1/2 unit. Music C-4. Music History. Covering the development of music down to Bach's advent and lives of the composers down to our present time. Classes, two times a week. Credit, 1/4 unit. Private instruction in voice, piano, violin and band instruments is given in the School of Music. Two units credit may be earned toward graduation, one in class work, one in private instruction for which two hours' lessons instruction a week and two hours daily practice is required. Pupils may receive a half unit for half the work. No pupil will be registered for less than one quarter, consisting of twelve weeks. Arrangements for which will be made with the teachers.
