Show 12 ACORN live long, be happy and have many such birthdays as this one." So saying, Muriel held out to Jack a heavy gold ring set with his birth stone. Jack was astonished to say the least, and in the joy of the moment he nearly rushed up to Muriel to take her in his arms, but his saner being came to his rescue, and he stopped short. "Well," Muriel drawled out, "Why don't you take it aren't you pleased don't you want it?" "Pleased want it?" Jack questioned brokenly; "why of course I want it. Muriel and Fred," he began, "you don't know how you make me feel, I can't say a word; I'm so happy it turned out this way." "Which way; what do you mean?" inquired Muriel. "Oh!" Jack replied, "I can't tell you just now, but Muriel," he added fervently, "you don't know what a fool I've been." QUINLY. Friends It is my joy in life to find, At every turn of the road, The strong arm of a comrade kind, To help me onward with my load. And since I have no gold to give, And love alone must make amends, My only prayer is, while I live, God make me worthy of my friends. ANON. EDITORIAL The Acorn, in behalf of the elder members of the school, wishes to extend to all newcomers a welcome and a helping hand. We take this opportunity to wish you a very successful year. May the increase in attendance make the year more enjoyable, if that may be possible. The adage, "Give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you," has a broad meaning. In a sence it means that if you support the Acorn, the school paper, you wall receive the best enjoyment from reading it. We hope that you will all realize this fact. Keep Off The Grass "Keep off the grass," may sound old, but it is nevertheless important. We hear it twice every year; once in the fall and once in the spring. Students, let us have pride enough in the appearance of our school and also in the city to refrain from walking on the lawns. Do you realize that it costs time and money to plant lawns and to beautify our city and school parks? Sidewalks were invented to walk on. Our generous city has laid these conveniences for our use Now let it be not necessary for anyone to remind us of this again |
