Show Aprii Mr. M. 19, 1944 A. Browning, Wisdom, Montana. § Dear Vr. Browning: Discussed more or less in detail the result of our conferences in Washington and Hartford with Mr. Val A. Browning and he asked that a memorandum be prepared and sent to you. if meetings, return. will be glad any questions arise regarding our to explain them as best I can upon your They did have a communication from Colonel Herrstrom at Colt's asking that the word "Browning" be deleted in their Washington catalog records. The original letter appeared to indicate that they wanted to eliminate the word "Browning" from the name plate on the guns, at least that is the way Colt's interpreted it, and we were inclined to agree with them. A subsequent exchange of correspondence indicates that all they intend to © is to eliminate it from their nomenclature records in Washington. This appears to be something over which Brownings and Colt's have | no control whatever. Mr. Teller, in replying to the original letter from Colonel Herrstrom, called attention to the fact that Colt's are under contract with Browning to place the name upon the gun name plate. I called upon the War Food Administration,_ after getting an appointment with Doctor Ham, through Paul Badger. He stated that he would approve the application for wage increases covering in our and Claude Staples, but suggested a change statementto remove Lloyd Thomas what might a technicality. After be this was done he would be able to get the approval of the legal department. It seems that there is always a lawyer just around the corner in every Washington office. Both Washington and the standpoint to of Mr. Hume and I feel that Hartford had a definite value, "fence fixing". Messrs. Burke the trip to especially from and Williams, who were, of course, defending their position on the 192 case, really did and said everything possible to convince their colleagues in Washington that we should receive a clearance. There is just one question which. may or may not assume exaggerated importance and that is Colonel Herrstrom's opinion on the patents. With kindest Very regards, truly yours, |
