Immigrants at the Crossroads - Ogden City is a project to collect oral histories, photographs and artifacts related to the immigrant populations that helped shape the cultural and economic climate of Ogden. This project will expand the contributions made by Ogden's immigrant populations: the Dutch, Italian and Greek immigrants who came to work on the railroad and the Japanese who arrived after World War II from the West Coast and from internment camps. |

The following is a video clip from an oral history interview with Curtis Oda. "I think that was the upbringing of my parents and the way my dad made me feel about the United States, the fact that this is the greatest country in the world. That this is the only place that you've got the ability to make your own opportunities. If you don't cash in on your--opportunity only knocks rarely and you better answer that door. He says, 'You can do pretty much what you want. Just be honest about it, have high integrity and ethics, and you can make it.' He says, 'Son, will there be prejudices? Absolutely.' One of the things he said was, 'If you look for it, you're going to find it.' So I don't look for it. If someone is prejudiced against me that's not my problem, that's their problem." |
