Show Page 4 SIGNPOST 14-Man Casaba Squad Will Leave On Kansas-Colo. Tour by Vance Pace Fourteen hoopsters accompanied by Coach Reed Swen-son will begin their pre-season basketball jaunt tomorrow. Coach Swenson hopes to return with a greatly improved squad after they have played some of the better teams on the Kansas and Colorado courts. During the past week the bas-ketballers have, been taking their finals so that they might qualify for the journey. Tomorrow night the team will stop at Grand Junction Colorado, for their first court encounter on the road. They will tangle with Mesa Junior College, During the following ten days they will make a loop through Kansas and end up at Pueblo Junior College for their last game of the current road trip. Has 18-Man Squad Coach Swenson has cut his squad to 18 men. Because of the limited space he can only take fourteen. He has one of the most talented rosters in decent years. Only three lettermen dot this year's Wildcat roster, but new blood from the freshman ranks give an air of optimism. After a shaky start in the pre-season activities the Cats have steadily improved to look like a well-rounded outfit. Hill Field dumped the We-bercats 68-32 at the local base Monday, November 29, and again the following night by a 77-57 count. The Swenson men came back against Dugway Proving Ground last Saturday, as they plastered them 93-51. The Wildcats have combined speed with height and a good eye for the hoop, and for this trip they should return with more smiles of victory than frowns of defeat. GARY JENSEN is one of the fastest guards this season has seen. Gary stands 5-9, and his hook shot is something for towering centers to look out for. ROY HASSELL, a teammate of Gary's from Weber High's fabulous unit of a couple of years ago, has joined the ranks of the Wildcats. Roy is 6-3 forwarda dead shot from the corner. CURT VAN ALFEN has worked into a tricky combination with Hassell at the opposite forward slot. Curt is one of the three lettermen on the current teama terrific rebounder. BOB SUBIC has worked in from the football team. Last year he was one of the leading scorers. DON NISH, another returnee is playing the post for the Cats again this year. Nish has a fade-away and a hook shot that has them all guessingeven his mates aboard the Weber ship. DICK JULUSON is a fast moving, slick passing guard from down North Summit way. Dick has proved his skill in basketball drills this year. Watch out for him when he gets back. CLAIR STOKES is a 6-2 forward from Bear River. He was an all-state man in last year's Prep finals. TED CAMPBELL and GARTH HANSON are two stalwarts from Ogden. Ted stands 5-11, and Garth is 6-4. REESE QUAYLE, a 6-2 forward from Brigham City, will add plenty of competition for the Swensmen. DON CLIFFORD is a darter from Davis, and he can really dart. He is one of the best drivers on the Weber court this year. Nobody knows where he comes from but he generally comes up with a two-digit figure in the scoring column. MARV HANSEN, better known as Big Marv, is an elongated center from OHS. Marv stretches 6-6. BOB BROWNING is another footballer. Bob hails from Weber High and is a good prospect for the Wildcats. GLEN CAMPBELL is one of the leading scorers from Morgan. Glen has fit very well into the Weber machine and should see a lot of action on this current trip. Charmed Life Cats Edge Snow, Tromp Dinosaurs Weber College continued to lead a charmed life last Saturday as they squeezed past the Snow College Badgers, 74 to 73. The victory pushed the Wildcats into a tie for first place with Ricks. Both teams have an 8-2 record. The Swensmen had little trouble with Carbon the night before as they drubbed them, 69 to 50. Bob Subic hit the hoop for 30 counters to take scoring honors for the evening. Two weeks ago the Cats took a weekend series from Dixie and CSU. Weber got past CSU 76 to 67 and Dixie 85 to 59. Plagued by Injuries Coach Swenson has had a bad time this year, especially with injuries to his forwards. During the trip to Kansas, Roy Hassel had a wrist injury, and in the Weber-CSU game Curt VanAlfen had so much trouble with broken arches that he had to keep off the hardwoods. His injury was a recurrence of one in high school. Subic Leads in Scoring As of last week's games, individual statistics show Bob Subic to be the leading scorer on the Wildcat squad. Don Nish is second in the individual standings. ICAC Standings Team Won Lost Pet.
