Snow College is one of the seeded teams in this season's tournament and many sports forecasters will be disappointed and mildly surprised if the Snow "Badgers" are not vie-ing for top honors the final night of tournament play. At writing it looked like Snow would coast into first place honors in the Southern Division of the I. C . A . C., followed closely by Branch Aggies. This will entail a playoff between Snow and four-year Rick's College for the conference crown. Though not a participant in last year's tourney, the previous year Snow went through to the finals to play Weber College for the championship in one of the best basketball games that these parts have seen in a good many years. Snow clobbered Weber in a pre-season tournament at Cedar City and has shown remarkable power and plenty of good defensive work in their season's play thus far Coached by Jim Williams, the Snow colors are gold and white. Carbon College has succeeded in landing a spot in the Region IV tournament for the past two years because of her fine seasons record. Last year Carbon won the Southern Division of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic conference and barely lost the conference crown to Weber College in a red hot three-game playoff at Ogden. The Price outfit boasts an outstanding coach and sportsman in the form of Jackson Jewkes, likeable Carbon mentor. Jewkes graduated from Brigham Young University and has always managed to gather together athletic teams which spell trouble for any and all opponents. Nickname for the Carbon team is the Eagles and their school colors are blue and gold. Team captain for the Eagles is Tony Welch, small forward. President of Carbon College is Aaron Jones. The Eagles this year enter the tournament as something of a dark horse equation. They have dumped at least once all opponents in the Southern Division of the I. C. A. C. and if they have an "on" night are capable of pulling the rug out from under any team in the tournament. Should the Carbon boys succeed in putting JACKSON JEWKES Coach the skids under Weber in the first tournament encounter they might well be on their way. But if they lose they will certainly be strong contenders for consolation honors. RADIO STATION K Y O G OGDEN'S HIGH SPOT FOR GOOD MUSIC AND LOCAL SPORTS |
