MECHAM REGION IV, N J C A A VICE PRESIDENT Milt Mecham is directing the Region IV basketball tourney again this year and deserves much credit for the status and prominence the four-state meet has attained in the three years it has been staged. Head football coach at Weber, Milt is also serving his second term as regional vice- prexy and will represent this region at the National N J C A A meetings in Kansas later this month. ABOUT CASPER . . . The Casper Junior College team from Casper, Wyoming, put in its initial performance at the Region IV tournament in Ogden last year. Coached by a hard driver and basketball fundamentalist, Michael Sedar, the Casper aggregation looked good to Ogden fans. The Wyoming outfit landed two men on the all-region squad. Finishing up in league play behind the Northeast Agricultural College "Aggies" of Sheridan, Wyoming, the Casper squad enters the tournament as the second Wyoming squad and holds forth the promise of forty minutes of ball to any Casper opponents. Nickname for the Casper Collegians is the "Thunderbirds" and their team captain is Dave Adams, who doesn't quite make the six- foot mark. Colors for the "Thunderbirds" are red and white. Sedar doesn't have an excess of height on his squad this season, but he is relying on the fast break and speed to carry him over the rough spots. Height honors on the Casper squad are shared by Hawkes and Reich who each stand six feet two inches. Their teammates range below them. It would likely be a fatal miscalculation though, for any opponent to underrate Casper. ABOUT BRANCH AGGIES . . . The Branch Agricultural College at writing was following Snow College right down to the wire for first place honors in the Southern Division of the nine-college I. C. A. C. conference and has given an excellent accounting of itself in all casaba encounters to date. Sparked on the backboards by big, rangy, six foot seven Max Bond who is ably assisted by such hawk-eyes as Erie Reese and Team Captain Don Tufts the Branch Aggie "Broncos" are going to be rough competition for all comers. The "Broncos" coached by Ray Lindquist have managed to bustle into a berth at each of the three Region IV tournaments held since 1949 but have yet to cop honors. Lindquist, a graduate of the Utah State Agricultural College at Logan, always produces a club that is well coached and one which operates well under strain. Colors for the "Aggies" are Navy blue and white. A source of great pride to Southern Utah Sports fans is the new, year-old field house on the B. A. C. campus which gives the "Aggies" the distinction of owning one of the finest junior college playing floors in the west.
