Weber placed second in the Invitational Meet at Mesa College, Grand Junction, Colorado, which opened the season. The Wildcats expected to pick up first-place ribbons in the low hurdles, high-jump, and distance runs in the majority of meets. Among the outstanding athletes were Phil Johnson in the high jump; Waldo Jensen, Ray Mackay, Lynn Smith, and Ward Spendlove in low hurdles; Dwayne Atwood, Hugh Sloan, Ron Peterson in the distance runs; Ron Trussell and Jim Hassell in the weights.
