Show Church Hastory Continued ..... Lincoln Avenue; Reverend 0. E. Peper, 1969, under whose pastorate the parsonage at 709 33nd Street was purchased; Reverend Watkins, 1970; Reverend J. S. Speech, 1971; Reverend Willie Davis who pastored from September 14, 1972 to Juky 1978 when he lLegt to accept pastorate in Las Vegas, Nevada, and under whose pastorate the mortgage on the parsonage at 709 33nd Street was paid off; and Reverend from July Isaac Brantley P. 1978 untcl who February served 1979. as Interim Pastor In Febauary 1979, the church extended a cakl to our present pastor, Reverend N. Lawrence Liggtns. Pastor Liggink was pastoring in Texarkana, Texas when he accepted our call and moved to Ogden 4n May 1979. Sxnce that time, we have seen our church continue to progress. Our first and foremost direction from Pastor Liggins was to "Love ye one another." Along with this, Pastor Liggins recognized and emphasized the need for us to win more souls to Christ. In thts connection, on the Finst Sunday Night in November 1979, New Zion wrtnessed Atk baggest baptism ever as twenty-frve persons were baptized. Pastor Liggins saw much work ahead for New Zion, Anckuding complete renovation of our present structure and a communtty development project consisting of an educational center for all and service programs for Sentorn crtrzens and working parents. During 1980, our church grew by 62 souls and much of the renovation was accomplished. Additionally, burcldings were purchased for the Center. In 1981, we grew by 33 new members, and 27 An 1982. Pastor Liggans facthfully impresses upon us that our church, "Burlt by Farcth", must continually be about our Father's busaness.. So whether news by example, tn song, with on utth a smeke, people every we tell others the good sewon, through teaching, we are "The church doing mone for more day." And uth prayer, hope and aspiration, we continue to Attive 4n our neverending challenge of doing a greater work in Kingdom Burlding for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. |
