Show MEMORANDUM - PHONE CONVERSATION JAMES TUBSDAY, MAY 2, 19h: Information to be obtained 1. Mr. Hume would like to application is ready to send it on. é. Mr. May 2, P. HUME from Mr. 1944 Val A. Browning: know if the recent patent for him? Mr. Browning was Hume would like a list prepared comparable to that furnished by Colts, showing the patents which are now being used in the guns manufactured for the United States Government. In other words, a list covering Browning patents prepared to go along with Colt's list, in the same form. This list should be prepared regardless of whether or not the Browning patents are expired or unexpired. He would also like us to copy of November 22, contract states that check and send 1917 contract, there are two, on to him as the 1931 not one. Another thing which Mr. Hume would like is a statement from Mr. Browning giving information as to whether or not the guns which are now being manufactured for the United States Government are basically those which were developed by Brownings and Colt's. If the Government has been put to a great deal of expense to refine and change these guns the picture may be somewhat different than it would be if Brownings and Colt's, over a long period of time, have improved these guns to the state of perfection which they now have.. Viewed from this angle, a cost of $6,000,000.00 would be extremely low. As an example, it probably cost the United States Government a great many millions of dollars to experiment with, refine, improve and change ordinary automobiles and trucks to operate as tanks. Mr. Hume's associates think that the six million dollars which we show as total royalties received is an extremely low development and improvement cost if, as previously stated, the guns now being used are basically Browning-Colt inventions with subsequent improvements. |
