Courses of Instruction. THEOLOGY. The theological course is arranged with a view to prepare students for missionary labors both at home and abroad, to establish faith in their hearts, to cultivate pure and moral principles, and to fortify them against the vices and evil allurements of the age. With this object in view the following courses are offered: Preparatory Course. The life and teachings of the Savior, followed by a brief history of the Church of the present dispensation. Text books: Bible and Church History. Reference book: Farrar's Life of Christ and Life of Joseph Smith. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. 13 Higher Courses. I. The organization and establishment of the Church of Christ and the ministry of his apostles. Textbook: Bible. Books of reference: Farrar's and Fleetwood's Life of Christ and standard works. II. Book of Mormon.Chronological and Doctrinal Study of the contents of the Book of Mormon. Books of Reference: Story of the Book of Mormon and Book of Mormon Dictionary. III. Old Testament.Prophecies pertaining to the ushering in of the Last Dispensation, the Restoration of the Gospel, and the establishment of the Millennial reign. IV. Articles of Faith.The Articles of Faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as compared with the doc-trines of Christ. Articles of Faith by Talmage. SUNDAY SCHOOL COURSE. A Sunday School Course, mapped out and granted by the Deseret Sunday School Union Board, is taught in the Weber Stake Academy. To this all are admitted who furnish recommends from their Sunday School superintendents endorsed by their bishops. The course will begin November 12, 1900, and end June 5, 1901, and will include Theology, Sacred Geography, S. S. Treatise, outlining of lessons and methods of teaching. MISSIONARY COURSE. The following Missionary Course as outlined by the Presidency of the Church specially for the church schools will be given: I. Principles of the Gospel.A study of the fundamental principles of the Gospel, using the standard works of the Church with Elder Kelsch's Practical Reference as a guide. One hour daily throughout the year. II. Church History.A study of the leading events in the history of the Church, including the organization and duties of the various quorums of the priesthood, the more important revelations to the Church considered in the order of their reception, a brief study of the Book of Mormon and the evidence of its authenticity, general church information, training in the administration of gospel ordinances and incidents of missionary experience. One hour daily throughout the year. |
