Life of Christ and Apostolic AgeThe organization and establishment of the Church of Christ and Ministry of His Apostles. Text: The Bible. Reference: Farrar's Life of Christ and standard works. III. Bible HistoryA review of the compilation of the Bible and a careful analysis of each book. Texts: Old Testament. Bible Dictionary, and other works of reference. IV. Principles of the GospelThe Principles of the Gospel as taught by our Savior and his Apostles, together with the revelations given on the same through the Prophet Joseph Smith in the last dispensation will be considered. Texts: Bible. Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants. SUNDAY SCHOOL COURSE. A Sunday School Course, mapped out and granted by the Deseret Sunday School Union Board, is taught in the Weber Stake Academy. To this all are admitted who furnish recommends from their Sunday School superintendents, endorsed by their bishops and the President of the Stake. The course will begin November 10, 1902, and end May 29, 1903, and will include Theology, Sacred Geography, Vocal Music, Organization and Discipline of Sabbath Schools, Out-lining of Lessons and Methods of Teaching. A series of lectures will also be given on general topics pertaining to Sunday School work. WEBER STAKE ACADEMY. lit MISSIONARY COURSE. The following Missionary Course as outlined by the Presidency of the Church specially for the church schools will be given: I. Principles of the GospelA study of the fundamental principles of the Gospel, using the standard works of the Church with Kelch's Practical Reference as a guide. Three hours per week through-out the year. II. Church HistoryA study of the leading events in the history of the Church, including the organization and duties of the various quorums of the priesthood, the more important revelations to the Church considered in the order of their reception, a brief study of the Book of Mormon and the evidence of its authenticity, general church information, training in the administration of gospel ordinances, and incidents of missionary experience. Three hours per week, throughout the year. III. Scripture Beading. First SemesterA selected course of reading aloud from the Four Gospels, intended to train the students in the art of reading and to illustrate certain leading events and teachings in the life of the Savior. Second Semester: A similar course from the Acts and Epistles, with certain selections from the Old Testament, chiefly to illustrate doctrinal principles. Throughout the course attention is paid to correct pronunciation, distinctness of utterance, breathing exercises, etc., and to the meaning of the text. Five hours per week throughout the year. IV. SingingPractice in part singing, the object being to acquaint the young men with the most useful and popular missionary hymns. In this course |
