Show 28 WEBER ACADEMY CATALOGUE COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Any High School Course not called for at the beginning of a semester by at least eight students, properly prepared, may not be given. Theology The Theological Course is arranged with a view to prepare students for missionary labors both at home and abroad; to establish faith in their hearts; to cultivate pure moral principles, and to fortify them against the vices and evil allurements of the age. With this object in view the following courses are offered: Theology a and bBook of MormonThis course will consider the contents origin and devine authenticity of the book. It will treat the subject from three points of view, viz.: Testimony from the Bible, testimony from archaeological sources, and testimony from the book it-self. Text: Book of Mormon, Bible, American Archaeology. Required by all first year students. Theology c and dLife of ChristThe Organization and establishment of the Church of Christ and the Ministry of His Apostles. Text: The Bible. Reference: Standard Church Works and Gilbert's "The Student's Life of Jesus." Required of second-year students. Theology eOld Testament HistoryThis course includes a careful study of the important events of the history of the chosen people from the creation to the establishment of the Kingdom of Israel, and will be considered under the following heads: The Antedeluvian period, from the creation to the flood; the period of the dispersion, from the uood to the promise: the period of the patriarchs, from the promise to the exodus; the period of the theocracy, from Joshua to Saul. WEBER ACADEMY CATALOGUE 29 Theology fOld Testament History Continued This course comprises a study of the Hebrew monarchy, from Saul to Solomon; the period of the divided kingdom; the period of the captivity and the restoration; the period of Jewish history from the conclusion of the Old Testament canon to the Christian Era; also the study of the prophets, with special reference to their predictions relating to the coming of the Savior. Required of third-year students. Four hours, second semester. Text, Old Testament. Theology gChurch HistoryA study of the leading events in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ in this dispensation. Four "hours' throughout the first semester. Text: One Hundred Years of Mormonism. Required by all fourth-year students. Theology hPrinciples of the GospelThe principles of the Gospel as taught by our Savior and His Apostles, together with the revelations given on the same through the Prophet Joseph Smith in the last dispensation will be considered. Four hours, throughout last semester. Texts: Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and "Articles of Faith," by Talmage. Required by all fourth-year students. Theology iSpecial Missionary TrainingThis course will include instructions in faith-promoting work; reading and public speaking; the conducting of meetings; the psychology of missionary work; personal cleanliness and appearance; personal purity and etiquette. Five hours throughout the year. Required of all missionary students. Preparatory Course This department has been instituted at the Academy, not to take the place of the eighth grade in the public school, but rather to give to those young men and women, who are beyond the public school age, and who are |
