Show Union Pacific-King-Daggett Scaling - Agreement between the Union Pacific Railroad Company and Utah was entered into November 19, 1944, covering ditching and grading to install embankment shoulders and spreading oil along main line of the Railroad Company at Daggett, California. This job was bid on the basis of the amount of work involved from mile post to mile post. Total amount of the contract was $81,900.00. Approximately 22 men were required to carry out this operation. The average rate of pay was $1.52 per hour. Colorado Feul & Iron Corp. - Contract continued S. F. Walker - An agreement between Senter F. Walker and Utah for the production of iron ore from claims situated in Iron County, Utah. This agreement called for the production of a minimum of 1,050.000 tons (2,000 lbs, per ton) of ore. Bingham Railroad Tunnel - A concrete lined structure 18 feet wide by 26 high, approximately 4, 600 feet in length. This tunnel is being constructed for the Utah Copper Company for the purpose of expediting ore haul from the pit to the smelter. The assembling of equipment and personnel for this project began early in December, 1943, and by February 15, 1944, portal excavation had progressed to the point where the tunnel bore could be started. The ground has been bad from the beginning, requiring supports throughout. Considering the types of ground encountered, the progress was satisfactory and on January 31, 1945, the heading was underground 4,340 feet. Concrete was started in September 15, 1944. 1945 - 2nd Quarter Itah sold ranch properties, livestock, inventories, etc. for $2,875,000 resulting in a decided change in the financisl structure. Garfield Dike - Utah Copper Company - The work on the Garfield Dike, a tailings pond north of Garfield, has been going on for about two years or more. In September, 1944, the train haul had become uneconomical due to changes in location and contents of borrow pits, so fifteen 1 3-cubic-yard bottom dump Euclid trucks were substituted for the side dump cars, and the source of borrow changed to pits near Bacchus, about 3-1/2 miles near the end of the dike. |
