Zinc Oxide Plant Expansion - An expansion program initiated by 1951 by the owner employed Utah Construction Company to perform the detailed engineering and construct multi-million dollar additions to the existing Zinc Oxide Plant. By an electrolytic process this plant refines zinc ore concentrates from mines and zinc oxide from the various fuming plants to produce 99.996% pure zinc and the by-products sulfuric acid and valuable cadmium metal. The owner of this project was the American Smelting and Refining Company and the work was located near Corpus Christi, Texas. The work amounted to $4, 205, 000 and was completed about July, 1953. Carbon plant expansion in Texas for the Atlas Powder Company in the amount of $3,000,000. Plant facilities in Utah for the Commercial Shearing and Stamping Company in the amount of $350,000. Rocky Mountain Arsenal - Construction of this government installation required that Utah Construction Company maintain a complete organization to perform the engineering, procurement of materials and equipment, erection of buildings, and installation of machinery. The complete pro- ject inlcuded an administrative building, warehouses, railroad service spurs processing buildings, intricate piping and tank storage installations, air conditioning equipment, and an exhaust stack over 150 feet tall. The owner of this project was the United States Army Chemical Warfare Department and the work was located near Denver, Colorado. The amount of the project was $23,708,000 and for all practical purposes the project was completed in 1952.
