Show 1950 Projects completed or continuing during this period were: Angostura Dam - Located on the Cheyenne River near the city of Hot Springs, South Dakota, this project was completed in 1949. It is a gravity type dam with a height of 193 feet and a length of 2030 feet. The volume content of the dam is 850,000 cubic yards. The reservoir name is Angostura also and has a capacity of 160,000 acre-feet. Purposes for construction of the dam were irrigation, power, and flood control. The installed power capacity is 1,200 kw. The owner of the project is the Bureau of Reclamation and the project was engineered by them also. Approximate cost of the project was $5,354,000 Bear River (Grace) Dam - Located in Idaho this project was completed in 1950. The owner of the project is the Utah Power & Light Company and they engineered the project also. The approximate cost of this earthfill project was $275,000. West Canal - Thirty-eight feet wide at the bottom, 16-1/2 feet deep and 6-1/2 miles long, West Canal was built in the Columbia River Basin, Washington, for the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation. The $3,225,000 contract, completed in 1950 by Utah Construction Company and Winston Brothers Company in joint venture, included excavation and embankment, concrete lining in earth sections, miscellaneous structures and radial gate structures East Low Canal - Another part of the Columbia River Basin development of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation, this canal is 20 feet wide at bottom, approximately 21-1/2 feet deep and more than 15 miles long. Excavation and fill, concrete lining and miscellaneous structures were included in the $4,225,000 contract, completed in 1950 by Utah Construction Company in joint venture with Winston Brothers Company. Railroad Relocation in Oregon for the U. S. Corps of Engineers in the amount of $3,338,000. Railroad Construction in Utah for the Union Pacific Railroad Company in the amount of $47,000. Ballasting in Utah for the Union Pacific Railroad Company in the amount of $95,000. Railroad Construction in, California for the C & H Sugar Refining Company in the amount of $9, 000. |
