WE CANNOT AND WE SHOULD NOT BE SO DEPENDENT UPON EITHER A SINGLE COMMODITY OR A SINGLE COUNTRY, NO MATTER HOW SOLID EITHER OR BOTH NOW APPEAR. THE ATTITUDE OF THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT WHEN THE LABOUR PARTY WAS IN POWER WAS A MATTER OF EXTREME CONCERN TO US AND THIS CONCERN WAS NO DOUBT DEEPENED BY THE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING MARCONA'S ASSETS IN PERU EXPROPRIATED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
