| Biographical/Historical Note |
This loom was put together by Noah Shurtleff for his wife, Cornelia Samantha Hancock (1852-1936), to weave rag rug carpets. The whole loom is held together with wedges. Worn out clothing, sheets, and other cloth was not wasted, but was dcut into long strips which were tied together and rolled into balls for convenience when weaving them into floor coverings using this loom. |
