The block this building stands on is Block 29, Section 36, Township 4 N. Range 2 East of the Salt Lake Base and Meridian, and is a very historic block, being used in early days for all community out door gatherings, such as Base ball games, 4th of July, 24th of July Celebrations and Old folks parties, these being held in the grove on the Court House Lawn. On the Northwest corner of this Historic Block the first school house in South Morgan was constructed of brick, a one room structure. (taken from Tullidge's History of Utah Vol.2, p.107) "The people of Morgan in 1866 taxed themselves 3% to build a brick school house, the walls of which were put up the same year. In the autumn these energetic settlers hauled timber from the canyon, and Nelson Harvey and George Higley invented a shingle mill and cut shingles enough to roof the school house. In 1868 the school house was completed and utilized for school, meetings and amuse¬ments. The first School teacher was Alexander Ross. Before this in 1865 the first school opened in the home of Elizabeth Crouch, who acted as teacher. (Taken from Morgan Co. Historical Record Survey) Later in October 16,1905 a more modern brick building was completed just East on the opposite corner to the old school building, which stood until 1947 when the Welfare building was started on that sight. On the South half of this block the first City and County Court House was built, started in 1874 with L. W. Porter and Samuel Francis, Sr., appointed as building committee and partly completed in 1885, offices and upper room completed in 1886.
