Features of the interior: Coat closet in living room; fireplace; double French doors opening from living room to porch; closet bed in dining room; linen closet in hall; two bedrooms and bath. Detailed building documents for the houses shown in this series may be secured at moderate cost through the Home Building Editor of this paper. This service is presented to our readers through co-operation with the Architects' Small House Service Bureau, which is indorsed by the American Institute of Architects and by the United States Department of Commerce. Picturesque in Style, Design 5-A-75 Offers Excellent Accommodations This design traces its ancestry to the California mission dwellings, a suggested exterior scheme being red for the tile roof, to contrast sharply with white stucco walls. Working drawings show some half dozen schemes whereby, with a rearrangement of the porches and frontages, the house may be adapted to lots of various sizes, from approximately 35 to 60 feet in .width. The living room is light and pleasant. The dining room, separated from it by an arched opening, is lighted by two broad groups of windows. The closet bed, indicated on the plans, may be installed in this room if greater sleeping accommodations are needed. The kitchen is efficiently arranged and has cross ventilation. Compact as it is, it includes ample cupboard and drawer space and a built-in seat with pull-up table to serve for occasional meals. Home building questions will be answered without charge. Detailed furnishing and color scheme suggestions for the dining room as shown will be supplied. Write to the Home Building Editor of this paper, enclosing a stamped, self- addressed envelope. Construction: Wood frame, exterior finish stucco, tile roof. Working drawings indicate insulating board sheathing, which may or may not be used. |
