Show 8 POINTERS ON PROFESSORS IN the case of the underclassmen the problem of choosing courses is converted into that of CHOOSING PROFESSORS. This is an important consideration for all students because the grades you get depend as much on the professors as on your own effort and knowledge. Here are a few points to look for in professors." So speaks the Freshman's Bible, the little book called, The Psychology of Getting Good Grades. It seems that the author of this book, one Anonymous by name, has hit upon five points in professor-choosing that seem more than logical. They're just good sense. Here they are: "1. Choose a mature professor rather than a young One. This means mature in teaching experience rather than in actual age, although the latter is some indication of the former. "2. Choose a professor who has written his own textbook for the course you elect. This will save you the trouble of keeping straight the points on which he agrees with the text and those on which he disagrees. "3. Choose a professor who has the reputation of being dogmatic. Such a one states a proposition as a simple fact with perhaps a few supporting arguments. "4. Choose a professor who grades his own quiz papers if you can find one in this age of specialisation. He who gives you the information in lectures is the person who is best able to judge how closely your version of it approximates his "ideal" version. "5. Choose a professor who has given you a good grade in a previous course. When you find one who has a favorable impression of your ability, stick to him. He will carry his impression over from one course to another and save you the necessity of learning how to please a new one." So there, dear students, who haven't figured this out by yourselves by now, is the way to get through your sophomore or junior year. Pick out the professor. Weber has all kinds. Then go to it. We'll see you on the Honor Roll. leland h. monson. lydia tanner. alta hirst. john benson. |
