Show 12 THE ACORN shovels and official records have been established for the amount and rate of excavation accomplished. Difficulty affords heroism its opportunity. Blessed be difficulty! Advice to Freshmen If a Freshman finds his lessons Rather hard and dry, If no Soph'more comes to help him, Should a Freshman sigh? If he's little time to study Should he stop and sigh? E'er he says I cannot get them Ought he not to try? If a Freshman gets in trouble Rather hard to bear, And he tries to do his duty Need the Freshman care? Midst the taunts and jeers of Juniors Should he not forbear? Like a hero for his honors Ought he not to dare ? Should a Freshman's grade be sixty What ought he to do? Should he blame it on his teachers, Or his strength renew? If he tries and fails completely, Should he try again ? Yes, and if he fails, keep trying To reach the Senior men. John Jones EXCHANGE We are pleased to acknowledge the following papers on our exchange list this month; The S. H. S. Review, Star Of The Gulf, Student Life, The Student Osteopath, Student Rays, The Dragon, The Utah Eagle, and The Crimson. "Star of the Gulf," you are full of interesting material. Professor to classical student: "If Atlas supported the whole world who supported Atlas?" Student: "The question has often been asked, but never, so far as I am aware, satisfactorily answered. I have always been of the opinion that Atlas must have married a rich wife, and got his support from her father." Ex. The editorial, "Get out of your Corner," in "Student Rays" is very good. Why" is it," asked a Frenchman of a Switzer, "that you Swiss always fight for money, while we French only fight for honor?" "I suppose," said the Switzer, "that both nations fight for what they most lack." Ex. We are expectantly looking forward to the next issue of "The Dragon" that we may finish reading the interesting story, "The Mysterious Suit Case." A little boy in an American Sunday school in reply to his teachers question, "Who was the first man?" answered, "George Washington," and upon being informed that it was Adam, exclaimed. "Oh, well! If you're speaking of foreigners, perhaps he was." Ex. Only one exchange paper had any cuts in, this month. Have you no cartoonists in your schools? We shall be pleased to welcome any and all school papers to our exchange list. "Bringa de shofel, bringa de peek; Giavoni stuck in de mud." "How far?" "Up to hes knees." "Let him walk out." "No, he no cana walk. He wronga end up." |
