Show 22 THE ACORN six field baskets to two made by American Fork. The first game of the Basket Ball Leag'ue was played between the W. S. A. and B. Y. C. of Logan on January 12th at Ogden. The hall was crowded with enthusiastic students and teachers; many friends were there from the High School and elsewhere. The game was fast and clean, although several fouls of a slight nature were called. The Logan boys were much heavier and larger, and so one of them said, as our boys came into the field. "We've certainly got this game, boys; they won't be able to score." Although Budge's man was almost twice as large as he, Budge managed to make life miserable for him, and incidently to make three baskets. If Logan made a basket, it only took a minute or two for McKay or Doxey to give the ball a push, and even up the score. Belnap and Watson were in the game all the time, and generally kept their end clear of the ball. Belnap's man said that he had never been guarded like that before. The team work of both sides was good, but the Logan boys had to acknowledge that we were their superiors in this respect. The basket pitching of our boys was also better than that of the B. Y. C. teams. As soon as time was called, the noise became almost deafening. Hats, some of which did not belong to the students, were seen to fly toward the ceiling; a few, including Principal McKays, were spoiled, but that made no difference. Teachers and students joined in clapping and shouting, when the score of 26 to 23 in our favor was announced. No one could blame them, for it was our first victory over the B. Y. C. Mr. Burtner of Salt Lake as referee, and Mr. Smell of Ogden as umpire, gave the best possible satisfaction, and no complaints were heard from any one. After the game, a luncheon was served the Faculty, visitors, and team by the senior class. Toasts and speeches were made by the Faculty and members of the teams. The friendly spirit that exists between the two schools was manifested. No small part of the success of our team was due to the enthusiastic support of the students. This was noticed by the visitors, and our team was complimented on having this support. If You Would Linge Longer, You Would No Longer Linger With one of our Alarm ClocKs Wheelwright Bros.
